THEO Shopping Center Husum

The new THEO Shopping Center in Husum, featuring a wide variety of stores, opened in October 2019 on the former Hertie site in Husum. The adjacent parking garage offers 650 parking spaces.

Husum has gained another attraction. Since October 2019, the new THEO Shopping Center Husum—complete with a large parking garage—has been open to the public in the heart of this North Frisian county seat, nestled in the salty air of Schleswig-Holstein’s North Sea coast. The name THEO is intended to honor Husum’s famous poet, Theodor Storm. Spanning approximately 12,000 square meters and housing around 35 stores, this new shopping paradise will enrich Husum’s existing retail offerings with a mix of national brands and regional retailers in the areas of fashion, shoes, accessories, health, dining, and groceries.

The new two-story building and the parking garage are being constructed on the approximately 15,000-square-meter site of the former Hertie department store at Großstraße 15-19. The developer of the new shopping center is Husum Shopping-Center GmbH. The approximately 650 parking spaces are located on the first and second floors and will form Husum’s central parking garage in the future.

Robust Steel Fire Protection System for Parking Garages
Safety was a top priority from the very beginning of the planning phase for the THEO Shopping Center Husum parking garage. Consequently, the client required a robust, durable fire protection system meeting corrosion category C5 M. The company Spannverbund from Waldems took this into account during the planning and construction of the parking garage and therefore opted for HENSOTHERM® 910 KS. The two-component fire protection system was applied as a factory-applied coating.

Corrosion protection with HENSOGRUND 2K EP,
solvent-free 2K epoxy fire protection coating HENSOTHERM® 910 KS,
and the topcoat HENSOTOP 2K PU in the color of the client’s choice.

Advantages of the HENSOTHERM® 910 KS fire protection system:
HENSOTHERM® 910 KS can be used both indoors and outdoors; it features short drying times upon application, minimizes transport and installation damage due to the coating’s high impact resistance, and allows for weather-independent construction, which can lead to a reduction in construction time. Furthermore, it is an emissions-tested building product with VOC emission class A+, which is AgBB-certified, contains no plasticizers (TiBP), and is approved for the Cologne List.
In addition, the fire protection system is resistant to environmental influences such as high humidity, automobile exhaust, etc.
