SVHC-Free According to REACH – Future-Proof Fire Protection for Structural Steel

HENSOTHERM® 921 KS has been developed to meet the highest standards of environmental responsibility, occupational safety and product stewardship. Its formulation contains no Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) listed on the Candidate List under the European REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006.

This makes HENSOTHERM® 921 KS an ideal choice for asset owners, architects, specifiers, contractors and industrial users seeking low-emission, future-oriented construction products. The absence of SVHCs is becoming increasingly important for sustainable construction projects, public procurement, ESG-driven purchasing policies and environmentally responsible building practices.

For designers, contractors and building owners, this provides a high level of investment protection and future-proofing, as the REACH Candidate List is updated regularly and substances included on the list may trigger additional communication and supply chain obligations. By selecting an SVHC-free intumescent coating, projects can benefit from improved transparency and greater confidence in long-term regulatory compliance.

What Does SVHC-Free Mean?

SVHC stands for Substances of Very High Concern, a category of chemicals identified under the European REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 due to their hazardous properties.

These substances may include chemicals that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic for reproduction (CMR), persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT), very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB), or identified as having equivalent levels of concern, such as endocrine-disrupting properties.

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) regularly updates the REACH Candidate List. Manufacturers, importers and suppliers are required to monitor these updates and, depending on the product type and concentration thresholds, fulfil specific information and communication obligations throughout the supply chain.

Why SVHC-Free Fire Protection Coatings Are Becoming Increasingly Important

Architects, consulting engineers, fire protection specialists and contractors are placing greater emphasis on the chemical composition of construction products. Sustainability certifications, ESG requirements, corporate environmental policies and increasing regulatory expectations are driving demand for products that are free from Substances of Very High Concern.

With HENSOTHERM® 921 KS, you choose an advanced intumescent fire protection coating that not only delivers outstanding passive fire protection performance for structural steel, but also supports responsible material selection and sustainable construction.

Its SVHC-free formulation contributes to safer supply chains, increased transparency and greater confidence for everyone involved throughout the lifecycle of a building.
