HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 – Fire Protection for Concrete
Thin, lightweight protection for heavy structures
HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 increases the fire resistance duration of concrete and reinforced concrete members for up to 120 minutes and is particularly suitable for use in areas with high emission loads, such as underground and multi-storey car parks.
- Tested according to EN 13381-3:2015
- National technical approval No. Z-19.11-1715
- ETA 24/0584
- Concrete beams and columns (Exova WF Report No. 339818)
- Ribbed slabs and ceilings on request
- Water-pressure-resistant and weatherproof according to DIN 1048
- Colour: white (approx. RAL 9010)
- Colour design possible with top coat HENSOTOP WB Green
- BETON-CARBONSPERRE prevents the ingress of pollutants and moisture
HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 fire protection coatings for concrete are statically non-load-bearing. They effectively protect load-bearing concrete components against fire without affecting their self-weight or load-carrying capacity. In contrast to massive mortar or board systems, they are thin-film, visually refined, quick to apply and sustainable – ideal for both new construction and refurbishment.

Statically non-load-bearing
For coatings with HENSOMASTIK® B 3000, the dry film thickness is typically between 1 and 3 mm. With a density between 1.2 and 1.5 kg/l and a solids content of approx. 70 %, the additional weight is only about 1 to 3 kg/m² and therefore negligible compared to the self-weight of concrete (2,000 to 2,700 kg/m³ according to ETA 24/0584).
This statically non-load-bearing fire protection coating means that the applied system does not impose any relevant additional dead load on the structural member, requires no additional structural verification, and leaves the load reserves of the concrete unchanged.
Clearance height matters
Due to the small coating thickness of HENSOMASTIK® B 3000, an additional clearance height of typically 25 to 50 mm can be achieved compared with spray mortars, cement-bound fillers or cladding boards, which can add a static load of up to 50 kg/m². This is particularly relevant for the refurbishment or fire protection upgrading of underground car parks.
Surface quality and design
The coating is applied by the airless spray method, producing a visually smooth and high-quality finish on the concrete surface – conforming to complex geometries as well. The permanently elastic material HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 does not tend to crack and requires no extensive post-treatment, unlike cement- or gypsum-based fire protection mortars which must be applied in substantially thicker layers.
The bright white colour shade (approx. RAL 9010) optimises light reflection, reduces the number of luminaires required and lowers power consumption. If desired, colour design in RAL and NSC or individual sample is possible using the top coat HENSOTOP WB Green.
Durability
The system is maintenance-free and suitable for areas with high emission exposure, i.e. also for underground car parks. The BETON-CARBONSPERRE prevents the ingress of pollutants and moisture into the concrete. HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 is classified, without top coat, for the highest exposure conditions of type X and suitable for environments subject to weathering influences as well as for outdoor use, e.g. at garage entrances. The fire protection system is also resistant to water pressure and weathering in accordance with DIN 1048 and can be easily cleaned with a pressure washer if required.
Environmental performance
Environmental compatibility and sustainability are key aspects of our product development.
HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 is part of our “Green Product” line – comprising fire protection systems that contain no volatile organic compounds and are particularly well suited for use in ecological construction.

Major amendments and increased requirements in the German M-GarStVO 2020
In the previous version of the Model Ordinance on the Construction and Operation of Garages and Parking Structures (M-GarStVO) from May 2008, § 6 only required that the structural framework (columns and beams) in open medium-sized and large garages be made of non-combustible materials. This meant that the structural framework could be constructed, for example, from unprotected steel members without any specified fire resistance duration.
In the new version of the M-GarStVO dated 4 September 2020, this regulation in § 7 para. 2 has been removed. As a result, the structural framework in open medium-sized and large garages must now, depending on the building height, be designed to be at least fire-retardant (R 30) or even fire-resistant (R 90). This change reflects the fact that modern vehicles – due to the trend towards SUVs and generally larger cars, as well as the increased use of plastics in order to reduce weight and energy consumption – present a significantly higher fire load (see WD-8-002-22-pdf-data.pdf).
The exemptions previously allowed in para. 2 (2) for open medium-sized and large garages have been removed because of the three-times higher fire load of current vehicle generations. The minimum opening areas in open garages have not provided the expected heat-dissipation effect in the event of fire. This means that the fire-retardant requirement now also applies to open medium-sized and large garages (see synopsis of M-GarStVO at http://www.is-argebau.de).
With the fire protection system HENSOMASTIK® B 3000 (ablative system) for concrete members, or HENSOTHERM® 820 KS (intumescent system), the heat transfer during fire can be delayed to achieve the newly required fire resistance class – without major impacts on structure, aesthetics or clearance height.
In this context, HENSOTHERM® steel fire protection systems may also be used. They have been successfully tested according to the European standard (EN) for the fire protection of open and closed steel profiles in fire resistance classes R 15 to R 180, and are approved by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). For Further information see Steel – Rudolf Hensel GmbH.
