Fire protection for an architectural icon

‘The Squaire’ (compound name from ‘square’ and ‘air’) in Frankfurt am Main is a 660 metre-long, up to 65 metre-wide and 45 metre-high building in the airport district. It was built between 2007 and 2011 as the Airrail-Center on the roof of the existing ICE long-distance train station at Frankfurt Airport and, in addition to housing prestigious offices and hotels, offers space for 250 shops and restaurants behind a 173,000 m² all-round glass façade on nine floors. The building is connected directly to the airport’s main terminal via a bridge with a footpath and a moving walkway.

Protected by the HENSOTHERM® 1K steel fire protection system
The steel structures in the building, with a surface area of approx. 30,000 m², have been upgraded to fire resistance class up to F90 with the HENSOTHERM® 3 KS F90 (now: HENSOTHERM® 310 KS) fire protection system.
